CARBON FOOTPRINT

"I believe that if everyone makes a conscious effort to reduce their carbon footprint, we can truly make a difference in protecting our planet's future."
- Zainab Abdullahi

Carbon Footprint

PCU is committed to reducing carbon emissions to contribute towards achieving global climate goals. This emission reduction target is part of PCU's long-term commitment to improving the environment, achieved through increasing the proportion of renewable energy use and campus greening efforts each year. Reducing carbon emissions involves calculating carbon scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, as outlined in the Development Master Plan through 2043

Initiatives to Reduce Carbon Emissions

Currently, PCU has implemented several initiatives to reduce carbon emissions in campus operations, including:

  • Using solar panels for street lighting
  • Developing buildings with a green building concept
  • Planting trees to green the campus
  • Gradually replacing air conditioning with VRF and inverter technology
  • Installing Classroom Access Keys to prevent energy wastage from neglected electrical equipment
  • Providing buses in West and East Surabaya to transport students to campus and reduce private vehicle usage
  • Offering the Nunut application for students to share rides with others heading to the same destination, reducing vehicle traffic on campus
  • Establishing safe bicycle parking areas to encourage cycling as a transportation option
  • Promoting the use of stairs over elevators to save electricity
  • Replacing conventional lights with LED lights for better environmental impact

This ongoing initiative is committed to persisting beyond 2043 and striving towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2060
