Compost Fertilizer
As a form of Petra Christian University's (PCU) concern for the environment, organic waste is processed into fertilizer that contributes to soil fertility. The management of organic waste has been started since 2012 under the Green Campus program.
To this day, the management of organic waste is still ongoing. Moreover, the management of organic waste within the campus environment, which is transformed into plant fertilizer, continues to develop into one of the community service programs. PCU's organic waste management facility has become a centre for compost-making training and distribution. The training participants are the community around the campus.
The training sessions, which are held regularly, have shown significant progress. On a regular basis, more people, ranging from the communities around Surabaya to those outside Surabaya, are requesting compost-making training. However, the growing demand surpasses the available human resources capable of providing the training. Consequently, the Visual Communication Design (Desain Komunikasi Visual) Study Program was asked to create video tutorials and posters on compost-making accessible to anyone. Nonetheless, face-to-face training programs continue to be conducted.
Through the process of converting organic waste into compost and the compost-making training program, PCU actively participates in environmental conservation efforts.
